6 Jamaat leaders including ex-MP in jail for vandalizing Bangabandhu’s picture

A court has sent six people including a Jamaat-e-Islami former MP ANM Shamsul Islam, to jail in a case filed against them for vandalizing a picture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the International Islamic University Chattogram (IIUC) campus.

Tuesday (September 1) District and Sessions Judge. Ismail Hossain’s court gave the order.

The Jamaat leaders who were ordered to be sent to jail are- AN M Shamsul Islam, Professor Ahsan Ullah Chowdhury, Dr. Mahbub Rahman, Dr. Kawsar, Md. Shafiqul Alam and Nizam Uddin.

District Public Prosecutor Advocate AKM Sirajul Islam Chowdhury said the court had sent six people, including ANM Shamsul Islam, to jail in a case filed against them for vandalizing a picture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the International Islamic University Chittagong campus in Kumira area. They were granted bail by the High Court in the case.

According to the direction, the accused appeared in the court and sought for bail, but the state opposed it. Later, the court ordered him to be sent to jail after Tuesday’s hearing.
